Metallic Silhouette is a discipline that lets you know instantly if you have hit or missed the target – then the pressure is on to hit the rest of them! The history of Metallic Silhouette goes back to the early 1900s in Mexico, before its popularity skyrocketed in the United States in the second half of the 20th century.
Metallic Silhouette involves a series of matches where competitors and to hit and knock over metal targets shaped like chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams. The targets are of different scales and set at varying distances from competitors depending on the specific match.
Metallic Silhouette is a Pistol Australia and SSAA governed and sanctioned matches which are contested at club, state, nationally and internationally, with SSPC ACT members competing at all levels and claiming multiple titles. SSPC ACT facilities three Metallic Silhouette matches: Big Bore and Small Bore. Big Bore using centre fire handguns at distances 50, 100, 150 and 200 metres with targets in life sized and half scaled. Small Bore using rim fire handguns at distances 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres with targets 3/8th and 1/5th scale to that of the Big Bore targets.
Field Pistol is also shot at SSPC ACT where a variety of handguns are used up to and including 45 calibre at distances of 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres. Targets are at ½ scale to Big Bore targets.
